Fake Newspaper’s Real Counterclaims Dismissed
This might not be a very interesting case but for the fact that the defendant is The Onion. Katherine Pontius Ebel was employed at The Onion as its Chief Resource Officer. She departed in June 2019 and sued, alleging that the organization’s behavior triggered a “Good Reason” clause in her contract, entitling her to 12-months’ pay. The Onion counterclaimed, alleging breach of the fiduciary duties of care and loyalty and breach of contract. On May 21st, the District Court for the Southern District of New York dismissed the counterclaims in Ebel v. G/O Media, Inc.
