Uh-Oh. Perhaps We Were Too Optimistic About Twitter
This morning, we posted about Kate Klonick’s intuition that Twitter would be okay because Elon Musk doesn’t want to lose money for his investors and he can’t keep Twitter afloat if his only tool is the smite button.
But then today, Joseph Menn and Cat Zakrzewski of The Washington Post dropped this. In short, key people are quitting, compromising privacy protections on the site. Twitter is subject to a consent order with the FTC and now nobody is home to assure compliance with Twitter’s obligations. The FTC is not well pleased.
