Today in History: The Origins of the Coronation Cases

On this date, January 22, 1901, Albert Edward, Prince of Wales (“Bertie” to his friends), becomes King of England as Edward VII, upon the death of his mother, Queen Victoria.

Edward’s coronation — the first in Britain in more than sixty years — will be the pageant of its day, more than a year in preparation,  Originally , originally scheduled for June 26, 1902, its postponement until August and will lead to that staple of contracts casebooks, Krell v.
